The Lakeland Preparatory School High School Music Department will present its Pre-Festival Concert on Thursday, February 26, at 6:30 p.m., showcasing the talents of its band, orchestra, and choral ensembles. The evening will begin with a performance by the Jazz Band, followed by the Concert Band, Honors Orchestra, and high school choirs.

The Concert Band’s program includes Themes from Green Bushes by Percy Grainger, a spirited passacaglia based on an English folk song, and A Longford Legend by Robert Sheldon, a three-movement composition inspired by Irish street ballads. The Honors Orchestra will perform The Iliad by Soon Hee Newbold, a dramatic work portraying scenes from the Trojan War, as well as the triumphant Finale from Symphony No. 5 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

The choral program offers selections that balance reflection and inspiration. The High School Chorale will present Requiem by Eliza Gilkyson, arranged by Craig Hella Johnson, a contemplative prayer for peace, along with True Light by Keith Hampton, which blends spiritual tradition with contemporary expression. The Treble Choir will perform the traditional Irish folk song Shule Aroon, arranged by Ruth Elaine Schram, and The Seal Lullaby by Eric Whitacre, a lyrical setting inspired by the poetry of Rudyard Kipling.

This concert promises an evening of musical excellence, rich storytelling, and cultural tradition, highlighting the dedication and artistry of Lakeland Preparatory School’s student performers.
