Seven students from Lakeland Preparatory School made history this past weekend as they traveled to Tennessee Tech University to compete in the 2025 NAQT Tennessee State Championship, marking the school’s debut at the prestigious state Quiz Bowl tournament.
The team fought through 11 challenging rounds, securing three victories and narrowly missing out on several others. Despite competing without any 12th-grade students to bolster the roster, the Lions delivered an impressive performance.
Lakeland Prep was one of four teams representing West Tennessee in a field of 28, ultimately placing 20th overall. The Team’s Tournament Captain was Elaina Wright and top scorer was Alex Vasilescu. Aaden Nichols, Simardeep Chaudhry, Yashdeep Chaudhry, Jesus Trillo Malaver, Nathaniel Harrison also represented the Lions at their first state tournament.
Earlier this year, the team gained recognition by appearing on WREG News Channel 3’s Knowledge Bowl, and they are eager to continue sharpening their skills in upcoming tournaments.
