Lakeland Preparatory School is celebrating a major achievement by middle school band director Brent Hopper, who has been named a semifinalist for the CMA Foundation Music Teachers of Excellence Award. The prestigious honor recognizes public school music educators who demonstrate exceptional commitment to advancing music education and expanding student access to meaningful musical experiences.
The CMA Foundation champions the belief that music education is an essential part of a student’s development, and the Music Teachers of Excellence Award highlights educators who inspire creativity, connection, and lifelong appreciation for music. Mr. Hopper’s selection as a semifinalist reflects his dedication to engaging students and fostering a strong culture of music education at Lakeland Prep.
Finalists for the award will be announced during Teacher Appreciation Week in early May 2026. As he advances to the next round, the Lakeland Prep community is rallying behind Mr. Hopper in support.
“It’s an honor to be recognized as a CMA Music Teacher of Excellence semifinalist,” Mr. Hopper told Lakeland Currents. “Country music played a huge role in my upbringing. The CMA Foundation goes above and beyond to make music educators feel valued. None of this is possible without the wonderful support of my wife, Lakeland Prep, and the Lakeland School System.”
