Lakeland Parks and Recreation Board Seeks Volunteer Member

The Brody Townsend Athletic Complex on Memphis-Arlington Road.

The Town of Lakeland is currently seeking a volunteer to fill an open position on the Parks and Recreation Board (PRB), one of the community’s most influential advisory boards in recent years.

As Lakeland continues to place a growing emphasis on parks, sports, and recreational amenities, the Parks and Recreation Board plays a key role in shaping projects that impact residents’ quality of life. Over the past decade—particularly within the last five years—the town has significantly increased investments in recreational facilities, land acquisition, and park improvements. A major example of this progress is the completion and expanded use of the Brody Townsend Athletic Complex.

Looking ahead, the board will also help guide the vision for several high-profile projects, including Windward Slopes and the planned Lakeland Recreation Center, which is expected to be constructed on the site of a former motel. These initiatives represent important opportunities for board members to leave a lasting impact on the community.

The Parks and Recreation Board reviews and makes recommendations on park development plans, recreational programming, and proposed locations for new parks. In addition, the board advises the town on matters related to the conservation and stewardship of natural resources.

The PRB meets every other month, beginning in January, on the second Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Residents interested in serving on the Parks and Recreation Board are encouraged to apply online. Applications can be submitted at:
