On Saturday, October 10, starting at 6 PM, Lakeland will participate in a “Light The Town Blue” event which is meant to show support for law enforcement officers.
The Lakeland event was put together by Commissioner Wesley Wright. Other communities in the area have also been participating in the show of support. Commissioner Wright said, “I’m excited to see the support in Lakeland for Light The Town Blue this coming Saturday. It displays a united front from our community that we support law enforcement. I believe it’s great for our children to enjoy seeing the lights but also help them understand the value of law enforcement and their importance to our safety and security.” He added, “I look forward to driving around Lakeland Saturday night and seeing the lights.”
There are several ways residents can participate. First, light up your house in blue the night of October 6. This can be done by changing porch lights to a blue light. Some plan to run blue string lights somewhere on their home and blue solar lights can even be purchased from many retailers like Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Stewart Brothers, or online retailers. Local company, Big League Promotional Products, also has yards signs that can be purchased and 100% of the profits will be donated. Josh Mohon, owner of Big League, told Lakeland Currents, “100% of the profits from each item sold will be donated to the local law enforcement office of your choice at checkout. We’re excited to help support this great cause.”
