The BOC (Board of Commissioners) voted tonight (2.7.19) three to two approving Michael R. Marshall as the new city attorney for the City of Lakeland.
He replaces Chris Patterson who resigned as city attorney Jan. 15th.
The BOC had two meetings tonight, starting with a work session at 5:30 p.m. which included interviewing three candidates for city attorney. That work session lasted over three hours. The special meeting to select the new attorney started at 9:02 p.m. and commissioners made their decisions in five minutes.
Mr. Marshall is a shareholder with Evans Petree and was recently selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2019 in the fields of litigation; labor and employment; and employment law- management for the second year. He has also been selected to the Mid-South Super Lawyers list every year since 2015
Mr. Marshall graduated from the University of California and Southern Methodist University School of Law. He is a member of the American, Tennessee and Memphis Bar Associations. He is admitted to practice law in Tennessee and Texas.
Mr. Marshall has served as the general counsel for the Memphis City Schools and is the general counsel for the Shelby County Emergency Communications District and for Lausanne Collegiate School.
He is active in the Church of the Holy Apostles, where he serves as its chancellor. Mr. Marshall serves as vice president of the firm’s Board of Directors.
