Lakeland Featured On HGTV Show

HGTV's House In A Hurry

Earlier this month, Lakeland was featured on an HGTV show called “House In A Hurry”.  The show is centered around families or individuals in a rush to find a home.  According to the Home and Gardens Television website, “Finding the right house to buy is stressful and, for some, can take months or even years. However, unexpected relocations and compelling situations force these homebuyers to find the perfect property in an unfamiliar city in just one weekend.”

On the January 6th episode, titled “Finding Space Off Base”, a Navy family relocating from Virginia to Millington with just four weeks notice, comes to the area to find a home in one weekend.

The buyers are shown multiple homes in Bartlett, Arlington and Lakeland.  According to the Realtor on the show, Bartlett “has a home town feel,” and Arlington is “a growing community.” About Lakeland, the agent commented, “it’s a little bit more upscale.”

After seeing available homes, the buyers fall in love with a 3 bedroom/2.5 bath home in Lakeland for $305,000. After telling their agent to make an offer for $310,000 immediately, the agent stopped them before pulling out of the driveway and informed them another strong offer for the Lakeland home was just placed by other buyers. The couple upped their offer to $325,000 ($20,000 over asking price), but unfortunately another offer was accepted for the Lakeland property.

The Navy couple ultimately decided to live on base housing since they were in such a hurry.

Lakeland Currents reached out to local Realtor Amy Foster about the appeal of living in Lakeland.  Mrs. Foster, with Bryan Realty Group said, “When someone relocates to the Memphis area, Lakeland is often at the top of their list due to the amazing school system, but then they visit and fall in love with the beauty and uniqueness!”

Mrs. Foster further stated, “I tell everyone Lakeland is a real life Mayberry! The neighborhoods and sense of community are unlike any other Memphis suburb. Probably because it is smaller than the others. Many people consider Lakeland a large neighborhood instead of a town. In many of the neighborhoods in Collierville and Germantown you can have the same feel, but it’s limited to just that one area or subdivision.”
