Lakeland Citizen Advisory Board seeking volunteers

The newly formed Citizen Advisory Board is seeking volunteers, according to Shane A. Horn, city manager.

The volunteer board was created March 5th by the BOC (Board of Commissioners) to represent neighborhood groups throughout Lakeland.   The Board will include eight members.

Applications will be accepted through April 12th.

Creation of this Board was proposed by Commissioner Michele Dial during her fall 2018 campaign for office.  She cited the major issue in Lakeland to be the divisive nature of citizens.  “I would rather be annoyingly positive and optimistic than destructively negative and hateful,” said Mrs. Dial.   “Our world is spinning out of control with bitterness and entitlement. Our City doesn’t have to be, and we have the power to change it!”

Commissioner Dial proposed a volunteer board be formed with a representative from eight areas of the City. She said the group would meet quarterly to discuss the needs of each area to build trust in City leaders and staff. Members would have facts and research for upcoming City projects and ideas.
