“Go Lions ” screamed the LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) Cheer Squad during a Tuesday practice in the school gym as they performed stunts and sideline cheers.
The Cheer Squad has been practicing weekly for the middle school football season as well as several special competitions throughout the year.
Nicole Roman, president of the Lakeland Cheer Boosters, said the 16 girls will be at all LMPS home and away football games with a regional competition the end of October.

“They have a regional UCA (Universal Cheer Association) competition at the end of October which can get them an invitation to the Orlando UCA national cheer competition in February,” said Mrs. Roman. “This competition is broadcast live on ESPN.”
She said the girls also participate in a charity cheer fundraiser for patients at St. Jude Children’s Hospital. “All money and toys collected are donated to the Hospital. This event is at the Memphis Convention Center and hosted by Memphis Pride.”

In their third year as a team, the Cheer Squad hosts several school dances as fundraisers and will also be launching a spirit wear website for anyone in the Lakeland community to purchase Lakeland gear to support our team, said Mrs. Roman. Sponsor is Kimber Rahm, LMPS coach and physical education teacher. Coaches are Candace Nurse and Madeline Michelotti.

The first LMPS football game of the season is against Bartlett at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow (8.22.19) at LMPS with the newly installed bleachers, press box and PA system. Tickets are $5 for adults and children are free.
