Wil Ashworth, president of the Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce, today (10.23.19) announced that proceeds of $9,000 will be presented to Lakeland schools from the annual Golf Tournament Sept. 23rd at Stonebridge Golf Club (SGC).
Speaking at the final Chamber luncheon for 2019, Mr. Ashworth said for the second consecutive year, the Chamber is donating the same amount to divide between both Lakeland schools. He said the ceremony to award the checks will be at the Chamber Awards Luncheon Jan. 22nd.
Brittney Buchanan, executive director of the Chamber, said there were 92 golfers in the Tournament this year with more sponsors. “This event would not be a success without our amazing sponsors,” she said. The goal of the Tournament each year is to raise funds for the Lakeland School System.
Speakers for today’s luncheon at SGC were Josie Ballin and Colleen McCartney with ArtsMemphis. Ms. Ballin, director of marketing and donor engagement, explained the organization does fundraising for arts in Memphis. Since the organization was founded in 1963, $80 million has been contributed to arts in Memphis and Shelby County, she said.
Ms. McCartney, grants and initiatives manager, said in 2019, Arts Memphis awarded 164 grants to 72 local arts groups and artists, totaling $2.5 million.
The groups and programs of ArtsMemphis reach more than 2.5 million audience members including 700,000 youth. Funding these programs are 1,600 donors, mostly individuals, but also corporate, foundation and government.
Ms. Ballin said among upcoming events is the River Arts Festival Saturday and Sunday (10.26-27.19) on Riverside Drive. Proceeds will go back to arts in the schools including Arlington and Bolton High Schools. Link to event: https://www.artsmemphis.org/default.aspx?p=158124&evtid=1454282:10/26/2019
