The Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce today (1.23.19) honored its own with awards along with presentation of a check to Lakeland schools from their fall Golf Tournament.

The awards luncheon was a Stonebridge Golf Club in Lakeland and was sponsored by HOTWORX in Lakeland.

Wil Ashworth, Chamber president, announced that one-half of the net proceeds of the Golf Tournament was donated to the Lakeland School System (LSS).  “This is a way we give back to the community,” he said.  “This past year was the best year we’ve ever had for our Golf Tournament.”

Dr. Ted Horrell, LSS superintendent, was on hand for the check presentation. “I am so thrilled and appreciative of the relationship with the Chamber and the PTA,” said Dr. Horrell.   “Thanks to Brittney (Brittney Buchanan, Chamber executive director) and Will for allowing us to have these funds. We appreciate the support of this organization.”

Also present to accept the money was Matt Adler, principal of LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) and Joretha Lockhart, LES (Lakeland Elementary School) principal.  (Lakeland does not have a high school.  Those students attend Arlington High School via an interlocal between the two cities until a high school is built in Lakeland).

Mr. Ashworth announced the 2019 Golf Tournament will be Sept. 30th at Stonebridge.

Award winners included:

  • Outstanding Business Partner – Trustmark Bank, Lakeland, Christy Fitzwater
  • Outstanding Business Partner – Pink Flamingo Catering, Amber Lovell
  • Outstanding Community Partner – UPS Store, Lakeland, Tammy Hamilton
  • Person of the Year – Ary Torres, food and beverage manager at Stonebridge
  • Business of the Year – Stonebridge Golf Club – Michelle Lyman, Stonebridge manager.
