The February Lakeland Chamber Luncheon, held on Wednesday, February 26th, at the Lakeland Golf Club, brought together local business owners, community leaders, and residents for an engaging and inspiring event.
The keynote speaker, Kim Halyak of Experience Memphis Gardens, delivered a compelling presentation on the transformative power of gardening. She emphasized how organizing garden tours can strengthen communities, foster local pride, reduce urban blight, and connect people with shared interests. Halyak has successfully organized a gardening tour for the past decade in Cooper Young, Midtown Memphis, which has expanded to include participants from across Shelby County—including Lakeland. She highlighted the positive economic impact of these tours and encouraged attendees to get involved.
This month’s luncheon was sponsored by Pop-A-Lock of Memphis, with owner Jimmy Wilkins providing insight into the company’s wide range of services—extending beyond unlocking car doors.
Attendees enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Marco’s Pizza, while the Lakeland Preparatory School Jazz Band, under the direction of Brent Hopper, provided live entertainment. Hopper himself joined in on the piano, while the talented middle school ensemble captivated the crowd with an impressive performance.
The Lakeland Education Foundation took the spotlight table, sharing its mission and initiatives in support of local education.
The Lakeland Chamber Luncheons are a recurring event, held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Lakeland Golf Club, providing an excellent opportunity for networking, learning, and community involvement.
