Reed Cannon, junior at Arlington High School (AHS) and son of Lisa and Joe Cannon of Lakeland, won a Gold Medal for his weight class in the AAU Jr./Sr. Duals in Des Moines, IA March 30-31.
Mrs. Cannon said Reed was asked to wrestle the 120-lb weight class for Team Tennessee in the March tournament.
“Team Tennessee was comprised of 16 elite wrestlers from all over the state,” said Mrs. Cannon. “Reed won Gold for his weight class going 9-0 beating all of his opponents by pin except one. His most notable wins included a 7-2 win over the Wyoming State Champ and a win by pin over Iowa’s 4th placer. Team Tennessee came in 2nd place going 8-1 with just one loss against a tough Iowa team.”
In February, Reed was the first AHS student to make finalist in a state wrestling tournament and placed second in his division.
Reed placed second out of the top 32 120-pound wrestlers in the TSSAA (Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association) State Individual Wrestling Tournament Feb. 15-17 in Franklin, TN.
Lakeland students attend AHS through an interlocal agreement until a high school is built in Lakeland.
