By Carrie Douglas, LES second grade teacher
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and Tuesday (5.7.19) we celebrated Joanne Pedersen, a second grade teacher at Lakeland Elementary School (LES).
She will retire at the end of this school year, after an amazing 45 years in the field of education.

We had retirement party to honor her! One of the sweetest parts of the party was seeing all the former students who filled the library. It was evident to see the impact she has made on so many lives. Many students wrote letters to her and shared their favorite memories from their time in her class. Many stood up and read their letters to her.
Carrington Criswell wrote “You’ve always made my day a little brighter. You were the sunshine in the rain. Thank you for being there when others couldn’t. You always made me feel like your family. You made me feel safe. I love your endurance and your bubbly personality. You are the best second grade teacher around!”
There were many tears and many smiles! What a special day! LES sure won’t be the same without Ms. Pedersen on the blue hall, but we all wish her well. Thank you Ms. Pedersen for all the ways you made a difference in our lives. You will be forever missed at LES!
