Each regular meeting for the Lakeland Board of Commissioners (BOC) normally includes a Treasurers Report, as well as Sheriff’s reports and a city manager report. It includes a Board of Appeals, Municipal Planning and Parks and Recreation updates from the respective BOC members. Following that the BOC starts working through the consent agenda from the previous work session and then a regular agenda which are items that need further discussion. Meetings can range from just over an hour or upwards to four hours or more. Thursday evening’s meeting had some changes in order to accommodate attendees present.
Included was appointing Ben Ledsinger and Jeff Roman to the Parks and Recreation / Natural Resources Board and Brian Sullivan and Derek Johnston to the Industrial Development Board. For discussion was authorizing the Director of Parks and Recreation to submit an application for capital grant funding through the Ford Motor Company Fund. Initial discussion ranged from hesitant to supportive of moving forward so that funds could be used to build restrooms for IH Park. The BOC decided in favor of pursuing the grant.
Also approved was Lakeland Land Development Regulations in order to regulate the placement of smoke shops and CBD stores. Currently open establishments are grandfathered while any future businesses would have to open in M-2 Manufacturing Districts.
