It’s the weekend – More MEMFIX 4 work

Friday (7.27.18) has arrived for another round of full closures on the MEMFIX 4 project on I-40 in East Memphis.

Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) contract crews will temporarily close a stretch of I-240 from the I-40/I-240 split to the I-240/SR 385 split, as well as Poplar Avenue east and westbound, according to Nichole Lawrence, TDOT community relations.

  • Friday, July 27, 9 p.m. until Monday, July 30, 6 a.m.FULL CLOSURE of I-240 east and westbound and Poplar Avenue east and westbound.

***ALL WORK IS WEATHER DEPENDENT***

During the closures, all interstate traffic will be detoured around the north I-40 loop and the south I-240 loop. Both Poplar Avenue eastbound and westbound will also be closed. Additional closures will include the I-40 eastbound exits to White Station/Summer Avenue and Sam Cooper. Walnut Grove and Park Avenue will be open, but access to I-240 will be prohibited. Message boards will alert motorists to the closures and alternate routes. Drivers are advised to plan ahead.

Report from closures July 20-23

Traffic around the work zone was monitored closely throughout the weekend. While many motorists heeded the warnings and found alternate routes, there were some congested areas of concern. In preparation for the next closure, TDOT staff is working to adjust some of the message boards to provide better direction for those unfamiliar with the area. In working closely with the City of Memphis, Memphis Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol, the department will also close the I-40 eastbound exit to White Station/Summer Avenue and Sam Cooper during the weekend closures. These measures will help ensure the safety of all motorists throughout the MemFix 4 closures.
