At 4:48 p.m. today (3.20.19) the spring equinox marks the astronomical first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, with sunny skies in Lakeland, changing to rain this afternoon with temps in the low 60s.
Around the City, you can spot signs of the new season with thousands of tulip bulbs planted throughout Lakeland, now peeking through the ground.
Martin Perez, public works supervisor, and two from his public works team, planted 3,000 tulip bulbs in Lakeland in November. He said this is the first year for the tulip planting.
The spring flowers can be seen from City Hall to the IH Clubhouse; down Canada Road and Fletcher Trace Parkway; and around tree beds and at gateway entrances to the City.
