It’s “Doctor” now for LSS staff member Wanda Terral

The Lakeland School System (LSS) district technology coordinator, Wanda Terral, is now Dr. Terral after receiving her Doctorate of Education (IDT) at the University of Memphis Saturday (5.4.19).

She said her degree is in instructional and curriculum leadership with a concentration in instructional design and technology. “My area of research is in self-directed professional learning of teachers,” she said.  Dr. Terral has a bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education from Louisiana Tech University with a master’s degree in music composition from the University of Mississippi.

Of Dr. Terral, LSS Superintendent Dr. Ted Horrell said, “You are one of the hardest working, knowledgeable, and dedicated people we know. Thanks for all you do for Lakeland School System.”

The 23-year educator started with LSS in April 2014. Prior to Lakeland, she worked with Shelby County Schools as a high school band director, middle school music teacher, and specialist in educational technology. She was assistant band director at Collierville High School and taught music at Germantown Middle, Mt. Pisgah Middle and Elmore Park Middle Schools.  Her instrument is trumpet.

She classifies herself as a lifelong learner constantly seeking information relating to new techniques and practices that relate to the use of technology to empower students to use technology as a learning tool. “I actively share resources on Google+, Twitter and on various websites. A Google Certified Innovator, Google Certified Trainer, former Google Glass Explorer, and all-around evangelist for Google in Education, she was also named the Lead Digital Innovator for the state of Tennessee in 2016 by PBS Learning Media.

Dr. Terral also is doing some private contracting work as a Learning Guide for a company out of Texas called friEdTechnology – https://www.friedtechnology.com/friedtechnology-learning-guides

When not spending time with her four cats (Geo, Baby, Dora, and Quincy), she is also a freelance web designer, programmer and an avid listener of audiobooks. She grew up in Alexandria, LA where her family lives.
