From Jim Atkinson, Lakeland city manager:
Republic will not be running today (1.16.18) due to the weather.
Monday trash routes will be collected Wednesday (one day delay for the holiday, plus one day delay for the weather).
“We’ll know this afternoon after the folks at Republic meet to amend their plan. The original plan is that everyone would be delayed two days this week. But, Republic is bringing in at least one extra truck tomorrow, they’re just not sure yet how to best utilize it. Once we talk this afternoon we’ll be able to put out a schedule for the rest of the week. We know for sure that Monday trash will be picked up tomorrow,” said Mr. Atkinson.
Today’s 2+” of snow follows Friday’s 1+” of snow. Schools are again closed for a weather holiday, effectively giving teachers and students a five-day weekend. Monday (1.15.18) was a holiday for Martin Luther King Jr. observance.
City crews applied a liquid de-ice mixture on roads city-wide before the snow, according to Mr. Atkinson. Today they are applying sand and salt. City Hall is open.
