The Lake District (TLD) announced some “gorgeous news” today in the reveal of its newest tenant to the mixed-use community at I-40 and Canada Road in Lakeland.
“Get ready to be pampered!” proclaimed the news release. The Lake District today announced its partnership with award-winning Gould’s Salon and Spa, a full-service beauty destination.
According to the release from Maggie Gallagher, director of development for TLD, “Gould’s Salon and Spa delivers a full regimen of high-quality spa services including a complete hair salon, barber shop and other specialized spa, beauty and cosmetic treatments. A local, family-owned business for more than 86 years, the one-stop salon will be Gould’s 12th location.
“Gould’s Salon and Spa is an iconic Memphis landmark driven by superior customer service and unrivaled salon services,” said Ms. Gallagher. “Bringing in a local, family brand only reinforces our commitment to enhancing the consumer experience through trusted partners who bring luxury lifestyle amenities.”
The new tenant is the latest addition to The Lake District’s mixed-use project, which includes retail, hotels and residential. Paul Gould and Trezevant Realty are representing Gould’s and Shawn Massey with TSCG (The Shopping Center Group) is representing the landlord.
“We are thrilled to be a part of the new Lake District Development at Lakeland. This upscale mixed-use project offers the ideal environment for our newest Salon and Spa concept. Services will range from a complete hair salon and barber shop to a full complement of Spa services.” said Philip Gould, who owns the company with his brother David Gould. He continued, “We seek out locations that share our passion for upscale ambiance and beauty. It was a clear choice to make The Lake District our new home.”
The Salon was started in 1932 to provide upscale ambiance, superior customer service and unsurpassed professional salon services, according to Ms. Gallagher. Eighty years later, the exclusive-to-Memphis-and-the -Mid-South business has 450 employees has been cited for its excellence by several regional publications.
Gould’s joins other retailers who have been announced for TLD including Memphis-owned Malco Theatres and The Stock Market, an innovative first-of-its-kind, only in Lakeland grocery store, announced March 1 as the first tenant for the TLD.
Other tenants announced are Starbucks and Osaka Japanese Cuisine.
Site preparation is underway now, with stone crushing and then dirt moving likely in July. Yehuda Netanel, developer with Gilad Development Inc., is expected to close on the property (south of the former Factory Outlet Mall) with Belz Investco, CP July 18. The Lakeland Municipal Planning Commission/Design Review Commission approved a land disturbance permit for TLD with the condition that the property be acquired prior to issuance of the permit. Land disturbance includes clearing and mass grading of about 99 acres and removal of pre-existing infrastructure.
Ms. Gallagher anticipates the dirt moving to take 8-10 months, depending on the weather. The Lake District is scheduled to open in 2019 and is to surround a 10-acre lake.
Designed as an urban village, TLD is to be a walkable, luxurious community with elegant water features threaded throughout its five premier districts, according to Ms. Gallagher: Inline Retail District (high-end retail, grocery); Main Street District (chef-driven restaurants and cafes); Hotel District (two modern hotels, one with lake view); Pad Sites and Office District (65,000 square feet of office space); and
Residential District (assisted senior living, downtown-style lofts and single family homes).
