For the first time at LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School), there are girls and boys soccer teams.
The girls kick off their season this afternoon (8.23.18) with a 4:30 p.m. game at USA Stadium in Millington.
The boys’ team will play in the spring.
The girls’ coach is Megan Criner, 6th grade LMPS science and STEM teacher with Stephen Shearer as assistant coach. He is with ASA (Arlington Soccer Academy), a competitive soccer team owned and run by Sean Andre who lives in Lakeland, according to Kristin Hicks, mom of one of the girls’ soccer players.
Mrs. Hicks said there are 22 players for an 11 v 11 format. The girls practice Monday through Thursday weekly.
Although the complete schedule has not been confirmed, the next two games for girls’ soccer are:
- Tuesday (8.28) – 4:30 p.m. – in Collierville, Collierville Middle School
- Wednesday (8.29.18) – 4:30 p.m. – in Arlington, location TBA, Arlington Middle School
