The Lakeland Prep soccer booster club is offering a free skills clinic to all athletes grades 5 through 8. The clinics are open to both boys and girls according to club sponsors.
The clinics will be held at the Lakeland Prep Athletic Annex Fields located at 9651 Old Brownsville Rd. This is the same location Lakeland Prep plays its soccer games. The dates for the free clinics will be January 15 and 16 as well as February 19 and 20. The clinics will last from 9am-10:30am on the Saturday clinics and noon to 1:30pm on the Sunday clinics.
Booster club member Josh Roman said one of the club’s goals is to have an annual program that brings together the school and the community to focus on team and player development. He said that would allow the school program to be defined as tryouts, practices, games and winter open field scrimmages for both boys and girls. “That’s pretty exciting for the future of Lakeland soccer,” he said.
He also added this program has already seen success. “Our off-season booster sponsored clinics includes the January and February clinics but also includes the eight skills sessions we hold in June and that was well attended last summer,” Mr. Roman said.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own soccer ball and water bottle. However, the restrooms at the annex have been winterized and will not be available for use.
