Free Mid-South Youth Hunter Challenge in August for ages 12-18

The Mid-South Quail Forever Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) is Aug. 10th in Fayette County for ages 12-18.

Mary Sue McFarland said the YHEC is a one-day event for students to compete in hunting events, to learn about the outdoors and have to have fun.

The day will include shooting events: archery, rifle and shotgun and non-shooting events: wildlife identification, hunter safety trail and written exam.  Age categories are 12-14 and 15-18, male and female.

Participants must have passed a Hunter Education course available through the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA):  https://www.tn.gov/twra/hunting/hunter-education.html .   Amy Snider, an officer with TWRA, said a traditional or field day class can be selected and classes are on the website.

Adults are encouraged to volunteer as coaches, assistant coaches and helpers to set up or coordinate events or demonstrate skills.
