Free Lakeland Guide now available to community, businesses, Realtors

There’s a new guide in town, touting the City of Lakeland.

It’s the Lakeland Chamber Guide and it was funded by an EDGE (Economic Development and Growth Engine) grant acquired by Brittney Buchanan, director of the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce.

The 24-page booklet is free to the public and continues efforts by the City and Chamber to market Lakeland and its attributes to current and prospective residents,  businesses and visitors.

Alan Johnson, member of the Lakeland Economic Development Commission and Industrial Development Board, designed and assembled the booklet with help from Mrs. Buchanan; Wil Ashworth, Chamber president; and Kevin Bailey, Chamber secretary. “The project took me about two months to pull together all of the information and distill it.”

The booklet was an initiative of the Lakeland Strategic Marketing Plan, and is free to the public, said Mr. Johnson.

“The grant was to be used for economic development and promotion of the City,’ said Mr. Johnson. “The project included a slight redesign of the Lakeland Chamber logo, reflecting the City’s recent rebranding.”

The booklet begins with a letter from Mayor Wyatt Bunker and Mr. Ashworth and then flows into pages about the history of Lakeland, schools, neighborhoods, amenities, economic opportunities, events and the soon-to-be-constructed Lake District at I-40 and Canada Road.

Mr. Johnson said hard copies are available at the following Lakeland locations: Trustmark Bank, 3714 Canada Rd.; City Hall, 10001 U.S. Highway 70; and Wil Ashworth-State Farm, 9160 U.S. Highway 64. “It will also be included in welcome packets to new residents and businesses.”

It will also be available at the upcoming Lakeland Chamber Golf Tournament which is Oct. 1 at Stonebridge Golf Club starting at 11 a.m.

Of the booklet, Mr. Johnson said it will be an ongoing effort, updated and printed regularly.   “We are looking to put together a formal Marketing Committee to tackle the other initiatives.”

Another marketing tool, “Come Discover Lakeland,” https://vimeo.com/245743165  is a video highlighting the City and its assets and the reasons to live and work in Lakeland. It was released in December.
