Former Lakeland Mayor, 101-years-old, died Thursday

Dr. William H. Howick, the second mayor of Lakeland, died Feb. 27^th in Knoxville at the age of 101.

He served as Lakeland’s Mayor from 1989 to 1993. He earned his PhD from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University and was a college professor in Memphis, Nashville and Missouri. Dr. Howick was born in Ontario, Canada but became a naturalized American citizen.

The obituary information was provided to Lakeland Currents by James P. Bomprezzi Sr., mayor of Lakeland from 1997 to 2001.

The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Knoxville with arrangements handled by Berry Highland West Funeral Home.
