Final voting numbers provided in November Lakeland election

During the Nov. 6 election in Lakeland, about 60 percent of eligible voters cast ballots for open positions on the Board of Commissioners (BOC) and Lakeland School Board (LSB).

Linda Phillips, administrator of elections for the Shelby County Election Commission (SCEC), said today (11.28.18) that 5,671 voted in Lakeland out of a total of 9,516 registered voters in the City.

The votes were certified by the SCEC Board Monday.  Winning in Lakeland were Mike Cunningham for mayor and Richard Gonzales, Jr. and Michele Dial for commissioner slots; and Laura Harrison, Kevin Floyd and Deborah Thomas for school board.

Breakdown by the four precincts which serve Lakeland

ARL02-L          Arlington Middle School – 119 registered voters – 76 voted (Location was                        Arlington Town Center this year only)

LAK01-L          First Baptist Church – 6,222 registered voters – 3,909 voted

LAK02-L          St. Paul UMC – 2,654 registered voters – 1,346 voted

STE00-L          Oak Springs Baptist Church – 521 registered voters – 340 voted

Ms. Phillips said there is not a breakdown of voters by age category at this time.

The final decision on one of the commissioner slots was not announced until Sunday when all provisional ballots in Shelby County were reviewed.  Michele Dial took the second commission seat over Michael Green by 22 votes.  Link to story: https://lakelandcurrents.com/and-the-provisional-ballots-say-michele-dial-is-new-commissioner/

The three new members of the BOC will be sworn in Dec. 6.  School Board winners will be sworn in Dec. 10.
