Participate in the “Parks for Pollinators” program from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday (6.26.19) at IH Park, 4523 Canada Rd. in Lakeland.
Wendi Haley, recreation program supervisor for the City of Lakeland, encouraged the community to join the staff from the Lakeland Parks and Recreation Department and other departments around the country in a challenge to document pollinator species.
“It is easy to participate by joining an event or making observations on your own using the iNaturalist app. With the iNaturalist app, you just take a picture of a pollinator (bee, butterfly, bat, etc.) or pollinator-friendly plant and the community will help identify which species it is,” said Mrs. Haley.
“We plan to document such species as bees, butterflies, plants flies and beetles,” said Mrs. Haley. “Bring the kids out, or join the fun yourself as a part of Parks for Pollinators Month.”
She said park and recreation agencies from across the country will be hosting “Parks for Pollinators BioBlitzes” throughout the week. To learn more about the initiative and which agencies are participating, visit
