Work is underway today (1.27.20) at The Lake District (TLD) to remedy the “Stop Work Order” issued by the City of Lakeland Friday (1.24.20) and the remediation work is expected to be completed this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the TLD building permit has been given by the City to Shelby County. Yehuda Netanel, property owner and developer, said that will allow him to pull permits for the foundation and concrete slabs for Phase 1 and begin vertical construction.
The Stop Order was issued so Mr. Netanel could seed or flocculate the ponds on the property at I-40 and Canada Road.
Emily Harrell, city engineer, said today (1.27.20), “Due to the rain Friday and Saturday, they were unable to complete the work. Today they are seeding the site and flocculating the ponds. I will check the progress at the end of the day. If they have substantially completed the work I will release the Stop Work.”
Mr. Netanel said he expects the Work Order to be released by tomorrow. For the last few weeks, he has been trying to do the seeding but rain made it impossible, he said. In addition to the seeding, workers are clarifying the pond so it can be pumped, said Mr. Netanel.
Mr. Netanel plans an official groundbreaking next week with the time and date to be announced.
Phase 1 of the $400 million, 160-acre mixed-use community surrounding a 10-acre lake and waterways is to be open in fall 2020 in time for holiday shopping.
Scheduled to be part of Phase 1 are Malco Theatres, Starbucks, Germantown Wine & Liquor, Gould’s Salon & Spa, Hollywood Feed, Elite Total Health, Hollywood Feed, BrickHouse Gym, Osaka Japanese Restaurant and The Stock Market – a grocery.
