Over 1,000 people enthusiastically attended the dedication and grand opening at Lakeland Middle Preparatory School (LMPS) July 30.
Dr. Ted Horrell, Lakeland School System (LSS) superintendent, opened the ceremony, thanking previous and current commissioners and school board members. He thanked engineers, architects and regional dignitaries who helped create the dream of LMPS.
Tanya Wallace, head of the Lakeland Education Foundation, presented an $8,000 check to Dr. Horrell from the foundation.
Also speaking were Matt Adler, principal of LMPS; Kevin Floyd, Lakeland School Board chairman; and Wyatt Bunker, Lakeland mayor.
Mr. Adler was passionate and emotional in his remarks to the crowd.
And, with the ribbon-cutting, the new $20 million, 112,000-square-foot middle school began its service to the Lakeland community.
