Early morning school bus crash injures 2 LMPS students, non-critical condition

Two students from LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) and one adult were injured today (2.5.19) at 7:25 a.m. in a Durham School Services bus/passenger truck crash on Beverle Rivera Drive between Canada Road and Seed Tick Road.

Letter from LMPS Principal Matt Adler sent to parents today:

Lt. Anthony Buckner with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said one student and the driver of the passenger truck were transported in non-critical condition to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital.  One child was injured and treated on the scene. Lt. Buckner said both the child and adult were transported to LeBonheur but the adult could be transported to Regional One Health later.

The Lakeland School System has posted, “We are aware of the bus accident at Beverle Rivera Road involving bus 35590.  Parents will receive additional information shortly as administrators assess the situation.  Mr. Adler was on the scene of the accident this morning.

There were 21 students on the bus going to LMPS, said Mr. Adler.

Lt. Buckner said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.  “It’s too early to have a cause, but it is being investigated aggressively,” said Lt. Buckner.

Traffic was diverted away from Beverle Rivera Drive this morning with a long line of vehicles on Canada Road headed north
