Eagle Scout project brings shade to tennis court benches

Thanks to a local Scout troop, two benches outside the Lakeland Tennis Courts now have permanent shading from the hot summer sun.

Aaron Lawrence, a Life Scout from Troop 455 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Lakeland, joined with 25 other Scouts in his Troop to create and built the two structures at Windward Slopes Park, finishing a week ago (9.5.19).

He said he met with Kevin Rooney, director of the Lakeland Parks and Recreation Department.  “We brainstormed on what my Eagle Scout project would be and Mr. Rooney suggested the idea.  The Eagle Project is the last major hurdle in a boy scout’s adventure to becoming an Eagle Scout,” said Aaron.“
