Dr. Alisa Haushalter, Shelby County Health Department (SCHD) director, said, “We are still at a pivotal point. We can continue to flatten the curve or we can continue to trend upward.”  She said cases and hospitalizations are continuing to rise.  The Directive reinforces the mandatory mask requirement for anyone over the age of 12 who cannot social distance.   And it focuses on areas where there are clusters like nursing homes and corrections and requires regular testing of staff.

“We will continue to look at what additional restrictions are needed,” she said.  Next to be reviewed, she said, will be the capacity of restaurants and whether gyms can continue to stay open.

The most recent numbers for the state are:  53,514 total cases (+1,359); 31,827 recovered (+807); 665 deaths (+12); 2,950 hospitalized (+53); and 920,801 tested (+16,564).  TDH website: https://www.tn.gov/health/cedep/ncov.html
