It was totally tubular, fer shur — the LES PTA evening of the 80s.
A capacity crowd of 300 filled the ballroom at Woodland Hills Country Club tonight (3.23.18) for the 10th annual Lakeland Elementary School (LES) PTA fundraiser.
“Back to the 80s” was the theme for the evening of dinner, live and silent auctions and music, all to raise money for the school, supplies and projects. Last year’s event raised $37,000.
Among the looks were off-shoulder, big or punk hair, leg warmers, oversized earrings, fitness/Macho Man and tutus.
Monica Pitts, PTA vice president of ways and means, headed the party’s committee and was assisted by many LES moms including Tiffany Maclin, Emily Spiceland, Rebecca Floyd, Jenny Keisel, Meredith Bunker, Jamie Johnson, Alexa Tutor and Jaime Hathcock. Brittney Buchanan is PTA president.
Mrs. Pitts said there were over 150 baskets, 5 live auction items, 15 live auction cakes and 2 lock box items.
In the last 10 years, the list of PTA purchases for the school is lengthy including educational programs, technology, playground equipment, and water bottle-filling stations for each grade level.
Funds raised this year will directly enhance the education and experiences of the children at LES, said Mrs. Buchanan. ”We truly appreciate everyone’s willingness to partner with the LES PTA to help us reach our goals of maintaining the educational excellence that is the hallmark of Lakeland Elementary,” added Mrs. Buchanan.
