The Lakeland School System has announced that Ms. Corrie Martin will transition from Interim Principal to Principal of Lakeland Preparatory School effective immediately. Ms. Martin has been Interim Principal since September 27th.
Martin, a Lakeland resident, has her bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Memphis and her Master of Education in Instructional Leadership from Union University. She has been in school administration with LPS since the school opened in August 2017 as Assistant Principal, and most recently Interim Principal.
In the press release from the school system, Martin said, “I am honored, thrilled, and grateful for this opportunity to lead LPS into its next chapter. I look forward to the challenge ahead serving under the excellent leadership provided by our superintendent and school board and alongside some of the best educators and staff in the business. My promise to our students is to do everything I can do to help them graduate from our system prepared for their future and ready to be stellar contributors to our community.”
In announcing the permanency of Martin’s position, Superintendent Dr. Ted Horrell stated, “Ms. Martin has spent much of her time as interim observing current procedures and listening to feedback from parents, staff, and community members. I know she is eager to hit the ground running and implement any changes that may benefit the school and its students based on that feedback,” He also commented that Ms. Martin has demonstrated the leadership skills necessary to lead Lakeland Prep into the future.
LPS currently serves grades 5-8. When the new high school addition opens in August 2022, ninth grade will be added and then one high school grade level for each of the following three years.
