“Cops Stop” for lunch at LMPS today

In a first at the middle school, the LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) PTO planned and served lunch to first responders today (3.28.18) in the school cafeteria for “Cop Stop.” The school opened in August 2017.

Meredith Bunker coordinated the event with help from Krista Pearce, Katie Autry, Tracie Stephens, Jessica Maxwell, Heather Adams, Shanda Bearden and Courtney Browning.  Invitations were sent to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office in Arlington and the Shelby County Fire Department in Lakeland.

PTO President Cindy Davis was on cookout duty in front of the school, grilling hot dogs and hamburgers with Matt Adler, LMPS principal. The grill was donated to LMPS and will remain at the school.

Inside the cafeteria, the lunch line included all the fixings for sandwiches, along with pasta salad, potato salad, chips, desserts and drinks.

Cop Stop was started in 2014 by a family in Germantown wanting to serve community law enforcement officers and build relationships with them, especially among children.  In succeeding years, it grew to other communities including Lakeland.

LES (Lakeland Elementary School) hosted its third annual Cop Stop in January, also coordinated by Mrs. Bunker.

LMPS serves grades 5-8.  LES serves grades K-4. Students attend Arlington High School through an interlocal agreement until a high school is built in Lakeland.
