LAKELAND SCHOOL SYSTEM NAMED EXEMPLARY DISTRICT FOR 2017
Distinction Recognizes Combination of Achievement and Growth
Lakeland, TN, October 20, 2017– The Tennessee Department of Education has named Lakeland School System an Exemplary School District for the second time in as many years of eligibility. Exemplary districts meet state-setrequirements for student achievement, and student growth in total student population as well as individual sub-groups of students.
The recognition reflects the performance of students at the K-5 Lakeland Elementary School which was Lakeland’s only school in 2016-17. LSS opened a second school, Lakeland Middle Preparatory School, in August of this year. The new school serves grades 5-8.
“We are particularly proud that this status recognizes the work of our teachers in growing students from all backgrounds. Our goal remains to be sure all of our students reach their maximum potential,” said LSS superintendent Dr. Ted Horrell.
