Commissioner Mick Wright Organizes Urgent Blood Drive

“This is a real problem, but one we can solve.” That’s what Shelby County Commissioner Mick Wright said about the recent news of a dangerously low blood supply in the Mid-South area. According to statistics, the Mid-South is currently importing 74% of the much needed blood to help save lives in the area. Only 26% is donated locally. To help solve this extremely urgent problem, Commissioner Wright, who represents Lakeland and part of Bartlett, has partnered with Andy B’s Bowling for a “Bowl For Life” blood drive. The Mighty 990 Am News Talk Radio and Lakeland Currents have also accepted the challenge to help drive awareness for the event.

The event will be held, Monday, June 28th from 11am to 4pm at Andy B’s Bowling located at 6276 Stage Road in Bartlett.

Donors will receive this free shirt. The front will say “American Hero”

According to Commissioner Wright, a variety of local businesses have stepped up to help encourage people to come out and donate. All donors will receive a free t-shirt, a coupon for discounted bowling, a Bartlett TCBY coupon, a Bartlett Chick Fil A coupon, and will be entered into a $500 Amazon Gift Card drawing.

When asked about his motivation to engineer this drive Commissioner Wright told Lakeland Currents that Independence Day was on his mind and how blessed we are by the sacrifices made by the heroes who went before us. “They fought for our rights, life and freedom. We also can be heroes with a much smaller cost. And what we do can go a long way and have a huge impact. We can save American lives. A heroic few can make a big difference, and we can rebuild those civic bonds that have allowed this country to grow and thrive,” he said.
