Ms. Newton said the play has a cast of 85 students. “There are 77 students on stage and 8 students working as the backstage crew,” she said. “Students from Pre-K – 4th grade have been working since October learning lines and choreography as well as songs, some even being in different African languages.

“They will present some classic favorites from the movie such as “Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata” as well as some that are known only to the play.
“There are five different ensembles including jungle animals, hyenas, lionesses, spirits, village animals, as well as all of the familiar cast members from the movie that bring the stage to life.”
Ms. Newton commented on why the Drama Club did not choose a play showing Lion’s Pride for the Lakeland Lions to present.
“Watching our students, parents and community come together to help students become more confident on stage and take pride in their talents is one of my favorite things about theater.
“Some days it may look like there is no way we will get it all done, and then somehow with everyone’s help, it just happens. That is the magic of theater!
“There is so much to learn being a part of a theater group. Teamwork and commitment are two of the most important skills gained. I could not be more proud of this group of students and our community for making it all come together.”
Other teachers helping the production run smoothly are Amelia Wales and Amber Scott, 4th grade teachers; and Laura Daniel, 1st grade teacher.
“Parents Kristina Yeouze. Jamie Johnson, Jenny Kiesel and Emily Spiceland have also come alongside the teachers and spent many hours to prepare for this memorable presentation.
“Numerous other parents have stepped up to help in many different capacities as our final weeks of transforming the stage take place.
“You will not want to miss this memorable presentation of “The Lion King Kids.”
