City youth football starts next week

The City of Lakeland Parks and Recreation Department has a cheerleading squad and two youth football teams this season, according to Wendi Haley, recreation program supervisor.

The 10U team is playing in the Municipal Football League which includes Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Millington and Tipton.  The first game is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday (8.29.19).

“Our home games will be played at LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School),” said Mrs. Haley.  “Our football team is made up of 25 players ages 9-10, and is led by Head Coach Bryan Buckalew and Assistant Coaches Tramayne Jenkins, Billy Holt, Kevin Covington, Ronnie Montgomery and Justin Autry. 

“Our cheerleading squad has 34 girls, ages 6-10, and is led by Memphis Pride Coach Madi Michelotti.

“We are looking forward to a fun season! GO LIONS!!!”

There are 12 teams in the City Youth Flag Football League for ages 5-9, with players from Lakeland, Arlington and Millington, said Mrs. Haley.  Games begin Tuesday (8.27.19) and Thursday (8.29.19), and will be played at the City Hall fields.
