It is National Public Works Week and Lakeland will be celebrating and honoring the City Public Works Crew and Wastewater Staff with competitions and a fish fry, with events starting tomorrow (5.22.18).
Emily Harrell, P.E. CPESC, city engineer, said there will be an Equipment Rodeo Tuesday, a hot wings competition Wednesday and Fish Fry Friday.
“This is a focus on the City showing appreciation for our field crews,” said Mrs. Harrell. “A lot of times they are taken for granted, but they are the worker bees who keep our City together.”
The wing competition will be open to public works, wastewater and construction inspection. City Hall employees will judge.
The American Public Works Association State chapter hosts an equipment rodeo each year, so the individual who wins our competition will get to go to the State competition in Nashville.
The Fish Fry will be hosted by the directors: Jim Atkinson, Mrs. Harrell, Jessica Millspaugh, Cory Brady, Kevin Rooney and Josh Thompson. Employees will get to enjoy the rec room as well, said Mrs. Harrell
