Election time is approaching in Lakeland and you have a chance to meet the candidates.
The Lakeland Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Meet and Greet for all candidates from 5-6:30 p.m. Sept. 13th at The Refuge Church, 9817 Huff N Puff Road.It is free and open to the community.
The election to select a mayor, two commissioners and three school board members is Nov. 6. Early voting is Oct. 17th – Nov. 1st.
Brittney Buchanan, executive director for the Chamber, said Chamber Board members considered this event because of the importance of the election.
“We discussed having this event because this election is important for Lakeland and the citizens need to be informed of the plans the candidates have for our city.
“We hope this will give everyone the opportunity to meet the candidates and understand their platforms and goals for their respective positions.”
She noted the event will not be a debate nor will there be an open forum for discussion. “This is just casual one-on-one conversations,” she said.
“We are thankful for our Chamber member, The Refuge Church, allowing us the use of their facility to conduct this event for the community.
“There will be light refreshments and event is come and go.”
Mrs. Buchanan said most candidates have confirmed attendance for the Meet and Greet.

A 12th candidate, Phillip Childs, seeking a seat on the Lakeland School Board, withdrew from the race by the Aug. 23 deadline, according to the Shelby County Election Commission.
