New signs are up on Canada Road between I-40 and US-64 showing the speed limit for that stretch of road is 45 mph again.
Jim Atkinson, City manager, said the 35 mph signs were put up by TDOT after completion of the interchange work at Exit 20, although setting the speed limit on Canada Road is the responsibility of Lakeland.
Many Lakeland residents reported getting speeding tickets from Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Canada Road south of the I-40 interchange.
Atkinson said the City of Lakeland initiated a notification process with TDOT and then replaced the 35 mph with the 45 mph signs for that section of Canada Road.
