Lakeland Prep junior quarterback Brett Godwin has been named Athlete of the Week after a standout performance that not only lit up the stat sheet but also sealed a thrilling win for the Lions against Millington High School this past Friday night.

Godwin, now in his third year as the team’s starting quarterback, has proven himself to be the engine that keeps Lakeland Prep moving. After missing the 2024 season opener against Covington due to injury, Godwin returned in Week 2 against Bolivar Central, shaking off some rust from the long layoff. But by Week 3, he was back in full form, guiding the Lions to a 36-28 victory over Millington.

His numbers told the story: 25 completions on 38 attempts for 282 yards and four touchdowns. But it was the way he closed out the game that made the night memorable. With less than two minutes left, Godwin orchestrated a masterful game-winning drive, capping it off with a touchdown strike with just 24 seconds remaining to secure the Lions’ win.

As Lakeland Prep moves deeper into the season, Godwin’s resilience, talent, and leadership will continue to be key in the Lions’ pursuit of success.

Prep plays Haywood County this Friday hoping to even their record on the season to 2-2.
