After an inspiring comeback from a broken collarbone sustained during football season, Lakeland Prep’s standout Brett Godwin is making waves on the baseball field. His impressive performances have played a pivotal role in the team’s 8-2 start, propelling them to a historic 10th-place ranking in the state—the first in school history.
Godwin has been a force offensively, boasting a .344 batting average with eight RBIs. His consistency at the plate has been instrumental in the Lions’ early success, providing clutch hits and a steady presence in the lineup.
In addition to his hitting prowess, Godwin has dominated as a pitcher. He recently led the team to a statement victory over No. 7-ranked Gibson County, striking out 11 batters in a commanding performance. With a 2-0 record, 25 total strikeouts, and a 2.8 ERA, he continues to be a key asset for Lakeland’s pitching staff.
Godwin’s resilience, leadership, and all-around contributions made him a strong contender for player of the week.
