The first-ever “Blast from the Past” Ensemble is planned at LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) May 7 as a spring concert revival for the three school bands.
Anneliese Land, band director, said, “We are forming a “Blast from the Past” mega band comprised of students’ older siblings, parents, and other family members, as well as private teachers, teachers and administrators from LMPS and LES (Lakeland Elementary School) and more. The Beginning Band, Concert Band and Jazz Band will perform on the concert first, and we will conclude with the “Blast from the Past” mega band.”
Mrs. Land said the program will be in the school gym. “So far, we have over 80 members registered, including some of our very own LES and LMPS teachers and administrators. There will be a surprise guest soloist at the concert, as well!”
Mrs. Land said the 80 members include current students and their invited guests.
There will be registration and a rehearsal May 1st. Performance day (May 7th) will include a dress rehearsal, dinner and the 7 p.m. program.
She said she will conduct two pieces at the concert and one piece will be conducted by Musician First Class Alex Ivy, the Band Booster president. He is a musician with the U.S. Navy Program in Millington and his daughter Hannah Ivy is an 8th grade band member.
The event came together early this year, said Mrs. Land. “There is some coordination involved with getting members registered, connecting those who no longer own an instrument with one they can play on the rehearsals and concerts and distributing parts.”
