Two hours of the arts unfolded at LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) last night (3.28.19) with art displays, choir, bands, dance lessons and Open Mic Night.
It was “Night of the Arts” at the middle school with free performances sponsored by the LMPS Fine Arts Department.
Starting the evening was a performance of the Honor Choir under the direction of Tonya Miller. Family, students and friends then moved to the Library to view student art on display with 23 pieces recognized as award winners.

A dance lesson was next with Evan Wellemeyer from Fred Astaire Studios in Germantown presenting some beginning dance steps to grownups and students in the LMPS gym.
The Jazz Band, directed by Anneliese Land, and Orchestra, directed by Paula Turner, performed several pieces in the library followed by Open Mic Night with eight students and one LMPS teacher.
Keith Adams, 7th grade ELA (English/Language Arts) teacher, emceed the evening with help from 5th Grader Valerie Flores during the Open Mic.
Participants included Adrienne Smith, 6th/7th grade ELA teacher, Graceanna Volner, Charlee Mayfield, Lilyanna Odom, Charlotte Russell, Gabrielle Fifer, Valerie Flores, Kenan Hager and Laila Sander.
Other faculty members helping with the evening included Bethany Christy, librarian; Jared Parham and Rachel Nanney, art teachers; Coach Kimber Rahm who is head of the Healthy School Team; Susan Rice Noah, RN and coordinated school health supervisor for the Lakeland School System (LSS).
