It was a fun and profitable time at LES (Lakeland Elementary School) as students, parents and friends raised over $42,000 for the school during the 11th annual Boosterthon and Fun Run this week.
The Fun Run hosted a two-week fundraiser powered by the Booster Team, said Kembree Darakshani with the LES PTA. “Instead of selling items, families gathered pledges to help their school, while students experienced a world-class character program and participated in the Lakeland Elementary School Fun Run. Most students competed laps at the big event.”
The Fun Run was Thursday (10.3.19) followed by the cake-decorating contest Friday.
Mrs. Darakshani said the Booster’s character theme was MindSpark Wild West, a Western-S.T.E.A.M. theme all about living with character. In this time-traveling adventure, students must help the MindSpark kids win six “Character Duels” to rescue Dr. Shock from the clutches of Bully Malone and his No-Good Gang.
Friday morning (10.4.19) the top five students in pledges competed in the Frost Bakery Nailed It! Challenge and competed against Principal Joretha Lockhart and staff for a cake-decorating competition. The challenge was to reproduce a lion cake decorated by Frost Bake Shop.
The monies raised will fund technology and playground upgrades, said Mrs. Darakshani.
