Bill Watkins, public works, is employee of the year for Lakeland, third year running.
Mr. Watkins was honored along with other Lakeland Public Works and Wastewater employees today (5.23.19) during an Employee Appreciation Lunch at the IH Clubhouse.
Grant Hunter is employee of the year for the Wastewater Department but was unable to attend the luncheon.
Employees of the year are selected by a vote of all City Hall employees, said Emily Harrell, city engineer. Mr. Watkins, she said, has won the title the last three years.
The hot wings and catfish lunch capped off a National Public Works Week celebration at City Hall which included an Equipment Rodeo Tuesday and hot wings competition Monday. Door prizes were awarded during today’s lunch.
Bobby Carpenter of public works won two of the three competitions in the Rodeo: mini-excavator and backhoe; and Alex Fink won the knuckleboom truck competition. The mini-excavator competition is a pin drop; the knuckleboom truck is utilized to pick up a brick; and the backhoe operator moves a tennis ball.
