Michele Dial has secured her position as a new Lakeland commissioner with today’s (11.25.18) announcement of provisional ballots results.
In an email today from Linda Phillips, administrator of elections for the Shelby County Election Commission (SCEC), Mrs. Dial picked up 13 additional votes to continue her lead over Michael Green. Before provisional ballot counting was completed today, Mrs. Dial had 13 more votes than Mr. Green. With the provisional ballots counted, Mrs. Dial picked up 13 more votes with 4 additional votes going to Mr. Green.
According to Ms. Phillips: “Attached the unofficial, provisional ballot only results. 999 ballots were approved by the Provisional Counting Board and there are a total of 999 names of the PVL (Participating Voter List). However, when the ballot envelopes were opened one envelope did not contain a ballot. Since the affidavits are separated prior to when the ballots are opened, we have no idea who didn’t vote.”
Responding to confirmation of her win, Mrs. Dial said, “Hearing this is the best birthday present ever. (Her birthday is today.) I look forward to working with the new Mayor and BOC (Board of Commissioners) to continue moving Lakeland forward.”
The election to select a Lakeland mayor, two commissioners and three members of the school board was Nov. 6. The Lakeland election, for the first time, was tied to a major election — with positions open for state and federal general offices.
Mayor Wyatt Bunker said of Mrs. Dial’s win, “I am super excited she won. It’s a win for Lakeland because we will continue Moving Lakeland Forward.”
He added, “I love Lakeland and I love to serve. This new chapter in our lives will allow me more time with my family while remaining involved in all the great things happening in Lakeland.”
Mayor-elect Mike Cunningham said, “Congratulations Michele, I look forward to working with everyone.”
