Flying high above The Lake District (TLD) construction today (4.22.20) is a 20X30’ American flag, atop a 70’ flag pole.
The Developer of the 160-acre mixed-use project at I-40 and Canada Road in Lakeland, Yehuda Netanel, said he installed the pole and hoisted the flag to signify the reopening of Tennessee for life. In addition, he believes the American flag will boost the spirit and morale for the community.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced Monday the Safer at Home Order for Tennesseans will expire April 30th with many businesses in 89 counties reopening May 1st. The rebooting of the economy does not include Shelby County, according to local officials. The Lee administration will work with Shelby, Madison, Davidson, Hamilton, Knox and Sullivan counties and their health departments as they plan their own reopen strategies.
Mr. Netanel said, “The flag is flying in the exact same spot as the art monument will be and the same height.”
He is referring to a 70’ vertical sign which is to be placed on the property with the word Lakeland on the tower and a rotating and glowing TLD logo at the top. Mr. Netanel said once the vertical sign is in place on the property, the American flag will be moved to another location, but still visible from the interstate.
Vertical construction continues on the development with concrete slabs poured for Osaka Japanese restaurant and a liquor store. Scaffolding is in place for the concrete block walls, he said.
